"I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, and that enables you to laugh at life's realities." -Dr. Seuss Welcome to April's "Mysteries of the Mind" monthly newsletter! Since my last newsletter I have crisscrossed the United States 6 times in so many weeks! Pennsylvania, Illinois, Utah, Georgia, South Carolina, Nevada, California Viewing America through small airplane windows, I truly feel as if I am looking through the wrong end of Dr. Seuss's telescope and seeing a beautiful new reality. How wonderful it is to see the top side of clouds. Especially in the middle of thunderstorms as the sun sets across the vast Midwest. How organic it feels watching the cities of America flowing along our great rivers and vast lakes. How stunning it is experiencing the snow covered Rocky Mountains grow and fall into the salt flats and surrounding desserts. And all of that through economy class windows. In the middle of April I took a personal vacation to sunny California to perform with the Golden State Pops Orchestra, singing solos in their production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. We played to a packed 1,500 seat theater and received a very loving standing ovation. Congratulations to all of the members of the GSPO, musicians, cast and crew. The recording of that nights concert will soon be available in stores. In the bottom left corner you will find a wonderful piece of interactive performance art with a lost little robot trying to find his way in New York City. I love the story this tells and all of the messages that it brings up about what it means to live within the big city. I hope that it brings you a smile. I'm still smiling. As to business, this month I have presented lectures to university and corporate groups on organizational communication, leadership, sales and team building. Jill M. Styx in the Dean of Students Office at Illinois State University sent along this nice quote after my April Fools Day "Mysteries of the Mind" lecture "Paul is a gifted performer and we were excited to have him as a part of the 2009 season. His program was very interactive, entertaining, and insightful, as he was not just doing “tricks”, but educating the audience as well. Many students stayed after his performance to speak with him and he was happy to provide insight or answer any of the questions audience members had. " It would be wonderful to come and present this show for your business, local theater or event. Please keep sending me your updates; I love hearing from you! Tweenbots Is a wonderful piece of Robot/People art by Kacie Kinzer at ITP tweenbots "I wondered: could a human-like object traverse sidewalks and streets along with us, and in so doing, create a narrative about our relationship to space and our willingness to interact with what we find in it?....so, I built robots." -Kacie Kinzer |
